Zambia: KONKOLA COPPER MINES BOARD APPLAUDS NAMPUNDWE MINE FOR OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE

The Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) Board of Directors have conducted a site visit at Nampundwe mine and applauded the management and staff for cleanliness and operational excellence.

The Board delegation included Dr. Rodney Machila, Dr. Diana Kangwa, and Mr. Manuel Mutale.

The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Board’s engagement with operations on the ground and to gain first-hand insight into performance, challenges, and opportunities across KCM’s sites.

During the tour, the members of the board expressed strong satisfaction with the overall management of the mine, commending the team for upholding high standards in safety, organisation, and operational efficiency.

Addressing Board Members and employees during the visit, Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr. Malcolm Mewett emphasised that the tour was more than a routine engagement, but a moment to reconnect with the people driving the business forward.

“Today is not just a visit, it is an opportunity to reconnect with the heart of our business.

What we are witnessing at Nampundwe is a reflection of discipline, teamwork, and a shared commitment to excellence.”

He further highlighted the importance of maintaining high standards across operations, particularly noting the exceptional cleanliness of the mine.

“The level of cleanliness we are seeing here is commendable. It reflects discipline, pride in the workplace, and a strong safety culture.

This is the standard we must continue to uphold across all our operations.”

Mr. Mewett also emphasised the strategic importance of Nampundwe Mine within KCM’s value chain, noting its continued contribution to sustaining operations, while stressing that success goes beyond production.

He said success is not only measured by production but by the value created in people’s lives.

Nampundwe Mine Manager Mr. Reuben Chongo expressed appreciation for the visit by the members of the KCM Board, describing it as an important moment for the team to showcase their work and progress on the ground.

“We sincerely appreciate the Board and the Acting CEO for visiting Nampundwe.

This visit means a lot to us as a team. What you have seen here reflects the hard work, unity, and commitment of everyone at this mine. Every part of Nampundwe is important, and together we continue to contribute meaningfully to KCM’s operations.”
