COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT ARISING FROM COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UNIT NEGOTIATIONS FOR 2021-2022 CONDITIONS OF SERVICE BETWEEN KANSANSHI MINING PLC AND THE FOLLOWING TRADE UNIONS:
- MINEWORKERS’ UNION OF ZAMBIA (MUZ)
- NATIONAL UNION OF MINING AND ALLIED WORKERS (NUMAW)
- UNITED MINEWORKERS UNION OF ZAMBIA (UMUZ)
- MINERS AND ALLIED WORKERS UNION (MAWU)
- CONSOLIDATED MINING AND ALLIED WORKERS UNION OF ZAMBIA (CMAWUZ)
Kansanshi Mining Plc is pleased to announce that it has concluded negotiations for improved conditions of service for the next two years with five trade unions which, collectively, represent 2,350 unionized employees at its mine in Solwezi.
The Collective Bargaining Unit, which had representatives from Kansanshi Mine management and all the five trade unions, commenced the negotiations in October 2020. The negotiations were concluded on Wednesday 13th January 2021 after thirteen sessions.
Kansanshi Mine General Manager, Anthony Mukutuma, thanked all the union representatives at branch level and national level, who sat on the Collective Bargaining Unit, for the commitment they showed in their quest to secure the best terms and conditions for their members and their further commitment towards supporting the productivity improvement efforts of the company.
Important conditions of service agreed for the 2021/2022 collective agreement that expires on 31st December 2022 include;
- A salary increment of 15% for 2021 and 11% for 2022.
- Minimum basic salary for the lowest paid employees adjusted to K4,460 per month
- Educational allowance increased to K2,800/term for 2021 and to K3,108/term for 2022.
- Introduction of a company sponsored private pension scheme for all employees. Company to contribute 5% of basic pay for each employee.
Management is pleased that a Collective Bargaining Agreement is now in place and that the employees and management can now focus on production, supporting local communities and, in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, building business resilience.
