Zambia: CZECHIA PLEDGES K7.2 MILLION TO BOOST ZAMBIA’S MINING SECTOR

“We want to help you reach your mining goals and fulfil your priorities,” says Czech Republic Deputy Prime Minister Marian Jurecka.

The Czech government has announced a donation of K7.2 million to Zambia for the purchase of geological survey equipment.

Speaking when he led a delegation of Czech officials for a courtesy call on Minister of Mines Paul Kabuswe at his office in Lusaka today, Deputy Prime Minister Jurecka said the donation will help enhance Zambia’s capacity in geoscientific research, mineral analysis, and exploration support services.

Kabuswe thanked the Czech government’s donation, saying it aligns with Zambia’s broader national agenda to strengthen geological data, critical for investment decision making and policy development in the mining sector.

“This donation will enable us to improve our geological survey capabilities, which will in turn attract more investment in the mining sector,” Kabuswe said.

The Minister also expressed optimism that the partnership between Zambia and the Czech Republic will lead to increased investment and economic growth in the country.

“We believe that the Czech Republic’s expertise in mining technology will be beneficial to Zambia, and we are eager to learn from them,” Kabuswe said.

He further acknowledged the long history of collaboration that the Czechia shares with Zambia, further expressing gratitude for the country’s continued support.

And Deputy Prime Minister Jurecka expressed his government’s commitment to supporting Zambia’s development goals.

“We have seen tremendous improvements in the running of the government, and we believe that our partnership will contribute to Zambia’s economic growth and development”, Deputy Prime Minister Jurecka said.

He added that Czech businesses were in Zambia recently and are planning to return to develop the relations they had established.

“We want to intensify cooperation in mining, quality, and excellence in Zambia. The Czech Republic has a lot of expertise in mining, both surface and deep mining, and our companies would like to cooperate not only with the Ministry of Mines but also with the private sector involved in mining,” Deputy Prime Minister Jurecka added.

The Czech Deputy Prime Minister also drew the Minister’s attention to a European agency interested in collaborating with the Ministry of Mines.

“We want to help you reach your mining goals and fulfil your priorities,” said Deputy Prime Minister Jurecka.

Czechia and Zambia are yet to sign a memorandum of understanding which will highlight more on the donation of K7.2 million for geological survey equipment, meant to boost Zambia’s mining sector.
