Angola: Successful Gantry Installation at Luele Mine, Angola – A Key Milestone for Condra Cranes

Condra is proud to be part of the ongoing expansion at Luele Mine in Angola, where our custom-designed 50 Ton SWL Overhead Crane is playing a pivotal role in supporting the project, managed by Consulmet.
Currently, we are in the midst of Phase 2 and 3 of the gantry installation. This phase involves overcoming specific site challenges, including height limitations and challenging terrain. To meet these requirements, the 41,400mm long gantry has been engineered 2 meters higher than the initial Phase 1 installation.

The gantry components traveled 3,100 kilometers over 16 days, transported by 6 x 16-meter flatbed trucks in convoy from Germiston, Johannesburg, to Saurimo in Lunda Sul Province, Angola. This milestone represents a significant achievement as part of the larger 300-truck fleet effort heading to Luele Mine.

The extended gantry design will support the installation of 3 additional mills in the near future. The crane, commissioned in August 2023, will be lifted from the 16-meter-high gantry installed in Phase 1 onto the new, elevated gantry structure. Once the installation and rail alignment are complete, the final gantry will measure 69,900mm, reaching a lifting height of 18.3 meters, in line with the operational requirements for uninterrupted movement between conveyors and future mill servicing.

This significant upgrade is not just a technical achievement; it’s a testament to the strength of our engineering capabilities and our commitment to supporting major infrastructure projects around the world.
