Zambia: EIZ Secretariat Paid a Courtesy call on Kalumbila Mine in Kalumbila district

EIZ Secretariat staff comprising the Registrar, Eng. Linus Chanda, D/Registrar, Eng. Happy. Musumali, Director of Finance and Admin, Mr. Eunie Ngandu and Finance & Risk Officer, Benstein Chanda, visited Kalumbila Mine and held talks with the General Manager, Eng. Morris Rowe.This is part of Registrar and Director of Finance’s orientation program which is aimed at meeting major corporate members.

The meeting discussed several issues some of which were Concerns from Kalumbila mine ;

a)Processing of EIZ applications takes longer than the stipulated time frame.

b)Clarification on International Companies coming to work in Zambia regarding EIZ/ERB registration.

c) ERB applications are taking more than three months. For this reason legal appointments are delayed by Mine Safety that requires practice licences.

Meanwhile Eng.Chanda assured Kalumbila Mine that that EIZ is working tirelessly to ensure that practicing licences are issued to members within the specified duration.

a)EIZ will find solutions on how international engineering professionals that are required by the mines to work for a short period of time can be assisted by issuance of temporary practice licences.

b)EIZ is working on a system that will enable direct payments and registration on the website.

C) Mining industry to report all unethical or unprofessional conducts, especially by corporate members.

d) EIZ to work with Kalumbila mine in order to help develop young engineers projects and innovations.

e) Formation of Sections, which can contribute positively to professionals employed at Kalumbila mine in resolving different engineering challenges they might be facing.

f)Possible sponsorship of some part of the 2020 Symposium and AGM.
The Registrar extended his personal invitation to Eng. Morris Rowe to attend the 2020 AGM in Livingstone.
